CG Automation & Fixture (CGAF), located in Comstock Park, MI is looking for a Journeyman Fixture Builder!!

The Journeyman Fixture Builder will make changes and perform assembly needed for check fixtures and related tooling. Ensure tools function appropriately with complex angles or contours. Design and create fixture details and holding devices. The fixture builder may be required to verify accuracy and quality in accordance with established control procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Plans, determines methods, sequence of operations, makes layouts, fabricates, assembles and proves complex tools and dies and constructs all types of sizes of major fixtures, tool masters, master tooling gauges, and related tooling, where critical reference points, surfaces, locators, and tooling holes must be established and coordinated among 3 or more non parallel planes or two or more radial profiles.

  • Check the stock list to assure the correct components are used.
  • Conduct test runs with completed gauges to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary.
  • Uses the computer software to get measurements and specific machine assembly information.
  • Utilizes ability to work as a team with other mechanical, controls, program management and engineering professionals.
  • Devise plans for the build of complex assemblies.
  • Utilizes analytical thinking to understand the machine assembly and end product assembly processes.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.
  • Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.

  • Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Have the capacity to problem solve.
  • Ensure changes and problems are documented and communicated properly.
  • Assist with preparing material for secondary processes.
  • Fits and tunes the end product to nesting for a repeatable process.
  • Disassembles machines and reassembles during installation process.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned work area.
  • Effectively and safely operate hand and power tools, mills, lathes, drill press, surface grinder, saws, and sheers.
  • Possesses knowledge of job schedules and successfully meets deadlines.
  • Engages in ongoing education and promotes continuous improvement.
  • Works with customers for a successful runoff and installation.
  • Ability to train and teach less experienced machine builders.
  • Tools required to perform position efficiently

Essential Education & Abilities

  • Ability to interact effectively with various departments in the organization.
  • Prefer 2-3 years of experience in automation.
  • Prefer 2 years of experience in sub-assembly and full-assembly of various automated machines and tooling processes.
  • Effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong math /computer skills.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds regularly.
  • High Schools degree/GED.
