Entry Level Mold Designer

Commercial Tool & Die (CTD), located in Comstock Park, MI is looking for a couple Entry Level Design Apprentice positions!

This position is ideal for a highly motivated team-player who thrives in a fast-paced, supportive environment and is open to being taught the basic skills required to be a successful designer. This role requires attention to detail, mechanical inclination, aptitude for CAD, and ability to collaborate well with lead designers to finish projects for release to manufacturing.

Primary Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Modify and refine designs, using working models, to conform to customer specifications, production limitations, or changes in design trends.
  • Interface with Project Engineers and customers in design reviews to facilitate correct production standards.
  • Check accuracy of all design products
  • Create documentation required to meet customer standards.
  • Design the remaining aspects of the mold concerning; cooling, ejection of the part or mounting of the mold.
  • Make changes to designs based on reviews from senior designers and management.
  • Attend meetings as an active participant
  • Direct and coordinate fellow team members through the specification sheets from sketches, both written and verbal.
  • Regularly check-in with senior designers to obtain feedback and direction on software and design practices.
  • Prepare sketches of ideas, illustrations, and documentation using computer-aided design equipment and/or other computer software.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Entry level CAD experience preferred
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
  • Must possess sound problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess quality communication skills.
  • Personal computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of plastic injection molds or molding is preferred, but not required.
