Bench Hand - Any Shift

Commercial Tool & Die (CTD), located in Comstock Park, MI is looking for a Bench Hand to become an asset to our team!! This role is responsible for analyzing specifications, laying out metal stock, setting up and operating machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Form a variety of complicated parts from flat stock or partly machined formed material by finish hammering with or without the use of form blocks.
• Forms experimental or first run parts working from blueprints, sketches or verbal instructions.
• May be required to use precision instruments in laying out and checking work.
• Removes dents, wrinkles, distortions, oilcans, etc.; required to operate brake, roll, saw, etc., to cut and form metal.
• Forms and fits related parts and prepares for weld assemblies.
• Makes work aids and templates as required.
• Uses a variety of methods of heating to preheat material to facilitate forming.
• Lays out, cuts, forms, drills, reams and assembles metal parts of complicated nature.
• Makes sample or experimental or production parts, using blueprints, templates, engineering orders or sketches with or without tools.
• May improvise work aids and temporary tooling necessary to fabricate first run parts.
• May drill, trim and fit mating parts.

Essential Education & Abilities

• Ability to interact effectively with various departments in the organization.
• Prefer at least 1 year of experience.
• Effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Strong math
• Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
• Must be able to lift 75 pounds regularly.
• High Schools degree/GED.
